- Climate Change and Pastoralism on the Tibetan Plateau.
Conveners: Mr. Tenzin Norbu, Ms. Dhondup Dolma and Mr. Suresh Nautiyal.
Tibetan Plateau is considered as the 'Third Pole' and the impacts of climate change will directly affect many Asian countries. It is also regarded as the 'Water Tower of Asia', approximately 1.3 billion peoples are directly or indirectly dependent on the water that flows through it. Pastoralist life on the Tibetan Plateau is facing huge challenge with current climate change and development policies. During the session, the compilation of years of latest research findings and experimental data from many Chinese scientists and Western researchers on the Tibetan Plateau will be discussed. Process Flow: This workshop will be a semi-technical and a two way interaction between the participants and the speakers.
- “From Grassroot to Government” – A study of recent Green Party building in the Philippines and Asia.
Convenor: Serhat Unaldi, University of Leeds and member of German Greens.
Eliciting discussion on the challenges and dynamics of green party building in the Asia Pacific, Serhat Unaldi shares his study of the history, ideology and political strategy of Partido Kalikasan, a grassroots-based political party in the Philippines and the first of its kind in Southeast Asia. This study aims to help the APGN network relate with each other and explore specific means of cooperation to advance Green Party building and agenda in the region.
Process: Mr. Unaldi's presentation, open discussion and small group sharing followed by reporting of insights.
- "Modern Direct Democracy - towards genuine people power in environmental politics"
Convener: Bruno Kaufmann
Across the Asia Pacific direct citizen participation in politics has risen, however more citizen-friendly infrastructure is needed. As the failed Copenhagen Climate Summit made clear, Earth Democracy is calling the 21th century. This workshop offers a unique chance to meet some of the most experienced environmental political activists engaging in making democracy more democratic. I welcome Gerald Häfner, the co-founder of the German Greens and current member of the European Parliament, where he is the leading figure in the constitutional committee to introduce the new European Citizens’ Initiative – the first transnational direct democratic tool, which will offer environmental groups a host of new opportunities in the future. In a roundtable discussion, all participants are invited to share their experiences and discuss the next steps across the Asia-Pacific to create genuine people power in environmental politics.
- Workshops concerning climate change may be raised an organized from the floor following the panel discussions.
論壇之後,其他有關氣候變遷議題可在現場提出進行小組討論。
